INTRODUCTION

For a long time, I thought my world had nothing to do with AI (Artificial Intelligence). But the truth is, today we find AI in many areas of our daily lives—like YouTube, Google Maps, and even in the email we use every day. As a future educator, I used to believe that AI was just a shortcut to finish everything faster. But during the Specialization Course “Artificial Intelligence Applied to ELT,” I learned that thanks to AI, many tools have been created that allow students to improve their language skills and even design their own practice activities. Let me tell you about all the new tools I discovered during the course:

MODULE 1 AND 2

If there’s one thing that truly stuck with me about this course, it’s effective prompting. Months before the course began, I started using one of the most popular tools among virtual assistants: the famous ChatGPT. Using the tool helped me organize my ideas more easily, explore new perspectives, and improve the way I wrote and expressed myself. To my surprise, once I started the course, I realized I had only been using the tool in a very basic way. I discovered that I could get much better results if my command—what I later learned is called a “prompt”—was more structured. That’s how I learned to use “parts” to build a better prompt. Many times, people overuse the AI’s capabilities expecting great results, but by giving it clear and concise instructions, we can truly enhance what we get back. The key elements to consider are: The persona : using phrases like “Act as…” or “You are…” The aim : the task or objective The recipients : the audience The theme : including bo...

CONCLUSION

All the tools explored during the course have expanded my world, giving me new ways to create materials and different assistants to help with specific tasks. Before starting the course, I felt a bit disconnected from the world of artificial intelligence, and to me, using programs like ChatGPT or Gemini felt like cheating. But once I saw them as support tools, everything changed. These tools will definitely help enrich my lesson plans with more varied activities. Usually, within the teaching circle, activities tend to be repetitive and, in many cases, the same. However, AI offers the opportunity to create visuals, audios, and even games to keep students more engaged in class. Without a doubt, I would always apply these tools to create different images for the activity "Which character are you today?", a task that encourages students to identify with something or someone. I could personalize it with emojis that represent my students, and even create custo...
